Overview

With the support of Sakura Science Exchange Program, a Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) youth science exchange initiative for Japan and Asia, YCU hosts students and faculty from overseas universities, including those affiliated with the International Academic Consortium for Sustainable Cities (IACSC). The program aims to foster international exchange by providing opportunities for students and faculty to learn and experience science, technology, and culture in Japan (specifically Yokohama). The goals include nurturing individuals who can contribute to the technological progress of their respective countries, establishing collaboration and exchange opportunities between YCU and IACSC member universities, and strengthening friendly relations.

Since 2015, the program has focused on exchanges in the fields of public health and urban planning. Through lectures by YCU faculty and external speakers on specific themes, visits to YCU's affiliated hospital and related facilities, and guided walks exploring Yokohama's urban planning and urban design, participants gain opportunities to learn about Japan's cutting-edge technology and practical initiatives. Student participation from YCU also facilitates mutual understanding of the social and economic differences between Asian countries and Japan, recognition of Japan's technological strengths, identification of common challenges, and collaborative brainstorming for solutions. Engaging in communication in English with overseas students and faculty also provides valuable opportunities for YCU students.
