Outline
On August 23, 2024, the 15th International Academic Consortium for Sustainable Cities (IACSC) Symposium was held at University of the Philippines. The theme for this year was "Sustainable and Resilient Future Cities through Research and Innovation”. In addition, 51 students studied together through the international student collaborative programs* held in conjunction with the symposium.
Symposium
Yokohama City University President Yoshihiro Ishikawa delivered the opening message at the symposium. Four keynote speeches were presented by the Philippine Department of Health, local government bodies, and Hasanuddin University in Indonesia.
In the afternoon, active discussions took place during the breakout sessions on topics in the fields of environment, urban planning, and public health. Researchers from Yokohama City University, Thammasat University, University of the Philippines, and other IACSC member universities delivered presentations on their areas of study, allowing participants to reaffirm the themes and issues of research at the institutions.
Students’ Program
A total of 51 students from Yokohama City University and IACSC member universities participated in the international student collaborative programs (SUDP*1 and IUPW*2). At the symposium, student groups from both programs made final oral presentations on the outcomes of their work. This provided a valuable experience for the students to discuss what they learned through lectures and fieldwork in groups composed of students from different countries, and to present and share their findings in English at the symposium.
General Assembly
At the General Assembly held after the symposium, Hasanuddin University in Indonesia declared its commitment to hosting the 16th IACSC Symposium in 2025. Following this, the content and outcomes of the international student collaborative programs (SUDP*1 and IUPW*2) were reviewed.
