On September 11, 2017, the 8th International Academic Consortium for Sustainable Cities (IACSC) International Symposium/General Assembly was held under the theme of “Well-being of Sustainable Living in Aging Population Era” in Thammasat University in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 9th IACSC International Symposium will be held in University of Philippines in the next academic year of 2018, and it continues to be taken into education and research activities.
In addition to the poster presentation sessions by students studying urban planning, presentations by researchers and discussions were held in parallel sessions by each unit (Environment, Urban Planning, and Public Health) in the afternoon.
60 students from YCU, Thammasat University, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Incheon National University in Korea participated in the workshop by Urban Planning unit. Fieldwork in the south area of Bangkok was also conducted. Through these activities, students, faculty, and staff interacted with each other and had global experiences, which was one of the aims of the program.
SUDP (Sustainable Urban Development Program) in 2017 was co-hosted with Thammasat University. 7 students from YCU participated; 6 of them actually visited Thailand, and 1 student joined via web conference system. With students from Universiti Sains Malaysia as well as Thammasat University joining, total of 27 participants learned and had discussions in group works on environment issues from the perspective of sustainable urban planning.
