On September 6th, 2016, the 7th International Academic Consortium for Sustainable Cities (IACSC) General Assembly and International Symposium was held at Universiti Sains Malaysia. “Prosperous Urban Living” being a theme, active discussions took place on how sustainable cities should be in each of the three units: Environment, Urban Planning, and Public Health.
The 8th IACSC International Symposium/General Assembly next academic year is confirmed to be held at Thammasat University in Thailand.
The total of 58 students, 14 from YCU, 33 from Universiti Sains Malaysia, 4 from Vietnam National University, and 7 from Mercu Buana University in Indonesia, participated in the workshop conducted by the Urban Planning unit as a part of the JICA partnership program. In the workshop, the students made proposals to make the targeted area of Malaysia, Bukit Mertajam area of Seberang Perai city in Penang, a more appealing, livable, and sustainable city, and presented them in English. They received various feedbacks from the participants, which is a valuable experience.
SUDP (Sustainable Urban Development Program) in 2016 was co-hosted with Universiti Sains Malaysia. 14 students from YCU visited Malaysia, and 1 student participated via web conference system. With students from Universiti Sains Malaysia and Vietnam National University joining, nearly 40 participants in total learned and had discussions together on environment issues from the perspective of sustainable urban planning.
