The 2nd IACSC International Symposium/General Assembly was held at Univeristi Sains Malaysia, one of its member universities. In the operation of IACSC, an International Symposium/General Assembly is planned to be held annually, rotating the host location among the member universities. It was the first time to have the symposium at an overseas university.
In the International Symposium, keynote speech and parallel sessions by unit were held, and in the 2nd General Assembly, direction to which IACSC is proceeding was identified and confirmed. The General Assembly successfully ended with the takeover ceremony to Thammasat University, where the 3rd IACSC International Symposium/ General Assembly will take place.
At the IACSC International Symposium, Mr. Nobutoki, Director-General of City of Yokohama, gave a keynote speech on the theme of Yokohama’s effort toward a low carbon society. Later in the parallel session, the participants divided into the three units: Environment, Urban Planning, and Public Health, and presentations and lively discussions took place based on the theme of each unit.
In this 2nd General Assembly, Penang Action Plan, which has clarified the roles and direction of IACSC, was put together and shared among the IACSC member universities. The host takeover ceremony of from Universiti Sains Malaysia to Thammasat University for the 3rd General Assembly was also held, making the assembly a meaningful place toward the next holding.
In the Urban Planning and the Environment Units, 19 students participated in the student exchange activities with universities abroad, such as overseas fieldwork and international student workshop. At the General Assembly, too, presentations by students were held. Through these activities, IACSC accomplished one of its missions, to foster exchange among students and faculty.
