Yokohama City University’s Graduate School of Nanobioscience will be organizing a class (class ID: 3474100) in the form of a webinar on the progress of comparative glycome in marine organisms.
Participants will receive a discount on the publication fee of their paper in the new special issue of Marine Drugs, which focuses on Marine Glycomics.
To register to attend this online webinar, please click on the button below and complete your application by 22nd March, 2022 (Tuesday). Upon application, you will be sent the webinar’s Zoom URL.
Glycans, whether present in glycoproteins and glycolipids, are characterized by a much greater structural diversity than other families thanks to the almost infinite number of linear and branched monosaccharide sequences that can be generated. Thus, by their structural diversity and their location on the surface of all biological systems, glycans occupy a prominent place for finely regulating the intercellular interactions involved in, among others, morphogenesis, embryogenesis, fertilization, infection, and symbiosis.
During this presentation, I will show several examples of glycome analyses of marine and aquatic organisms among sponges, corals, tunicates, mollusks, and fishes using multiple analytical tools. Doing so, I will demonstrate how glycans have played a central role in the emergence of metazoan organisms and continue to contribute to the adaptation of marine and aquatic organisms to their environment.
